Downloading movies may mean you get a nasty twist in
the tale
Almost every person you talk to these days will tell you that the current economic conditions in the UK are causing them to make cost savings wherever they can. One area that has suffered more than most is cinema, which once the focal point of a family's entertainment. Over the last few years with the advent of cable television, cinemas have been hard hit. However recently with families cutting deep into their budgets, cable television subscription cancellations have hit a whole new level.
One of the main reasons is that more and more UK families are looking to the internet for their entertainment, and are downloading not only TV series but also the latest feature films that have been pirated somehow or other.
While some of the better subscription sites guarantee that the material that they have for download has been verified to be virus free, some of the more disreputable sites who don't charge a fee but ostensibly make their money from advertising are actually fronts for giant hacking operations whose downloads are infested in everything that is bad in the way of viruses, spyware, malware and even trojan horses.
With visits to download site numbered in the hundred thousands daily, security experts predict that around fifteen percent of all material downloaded has been infected by at least one form of virus.
Hackers, by their way of thinking, probably feel that anyone who visits these sites to download pirated software are fair play to be taken advantage of and not liable to make too much of a fuss when they discover that they have fallen victims to a cyber crime.
While it is a cruel hard fact that downloading much of the material on these sites is a form of copyright abuse, it is a common practice that most authorities turn a blind eye to these days.
The whole point is that surfers should be able to go wherever they want on the web without having to risk their security and well being. It seems that the only means that they have to protect themselves against cyber crime in its many formats is to make sure that they have the best and most powerful virus protection program available safely installed in their computer. It may involve laying out some money, but it will be among the best investments they will make this year.
