In line with Oscar week, the ten best hacking scams for 2010 also announced

Without going in to too many details, one of the largest internet security organisations announced this week their impressions of what were the most successful and wide spread online viruses and scams for 2010. Whether by accident or design the announcement coincided with the Oscar awards ceremony for 2010 in Los Angeles. Although it is far from being a laughing matter, anyone of a certain mind and a fairly vivid imagination, on hearing that piece of news, might begin to envisage how a similar ceremony for computer hackers might look like.

Although this year's Oscars were reported to be a fairly low key affair, with the King's Speech taking most of the awards with ironically enough "Social Media" taking a much lesser role than was first expected. However the glamour was still there with winners of categories such as best actor, best actress, producer, director, sound track and so on all stepping up to take their prize, some fighting back their tears, while others failing to keep control of their emotions.

Close your eyes and picture someone been awarded hacker of the year, or hacker-ess, (if there is such a thing) leading spammers and so on. There could also be awards for directing the best botnet raid, designing the best malware, developing the most effective Trojan horse raid of the year. The possibilities could be endless. Obviously the ceremony would need to be behind closed doors, and the press would be kept very far away.

The world of show business generates a lot of money, and despite advances towards computer driven technology over the last few years, there are still actors, directors, producers in the film industry that earn millions for every film that they make with the film studios making even more. Whilst it is very possible to discover how much each superstar in the world of entertainment earns every year, we will never know how much money the cyber crime industry earns, and perhaps it is just as well.

While the icons of entertainment maybe earn a little too much for people's tastes, at least they have talents to provide something in return. Those criminals who wait in the shadows to pounce on the innocent and unsuspecting and steal their money, might even are talented people in their own right. Yet they have chosen the path of darkness and will never earn the accolades that their talents should have earned them.

Instead their advances have to be kept at bay through anti-virus software until hopefully they can be apprehended and punished for their crimes. That will be their just rewards.
