McAfee report that the malware epidemic has reached
new levels
Anti-virus software giant McAfee in an announcement released over the last few days has professed their fears that that the global malware epidemic has reached new levels. The company's concern over the spread of malware was a principal feature of the third quarter McAfee Threat Report release.
The McAfee Threat Report is regarded as one of them most important publications not just for those involved in the anti-virus industry but for everyone who is involved in software development, distribution and internet security. The up to the minute information on virus developments and their spread released by McAfee in these quarterly reports are regarded as being invaluable.
For that reason when McAfee express their fears on the unrelenting spread of malware it's also time for the public at large to also sit up and listen.
With the holiday season approaching fast, and spending levels among the public expected to be on the increase especially internet shopping, the public have to be especially alert when transmitting their credit card details online. With hackers waiting in the wings to pick up every scrap of information, McAfee are rightly concerned about how much of grip malicious software (malware) developers have caught on the internet.
The advantages of shopping online are very widespread yet whatever savings can be made could fade into insignificance if a shopper's personal security details are compromised with all the damage that can be caused to the unsuspecting.
McAfee have openly stated that both the online trader and their customers will need to be on especially highly alert to guard against attacks which are growing all the time.
According to the McAfee Threat Report, average daily malware growth has grown to around 60,000 new pieces of malware being identified daily, four times more than was reported for the same period three years ago.
McAfee's place as one of the leaders in the software security industry is carved in stone and when they make such a statement, there is concrete information behind their words. Long gone are the days when skeptics would claim that anti-virus software developers would deliberately create a panic in order to promote sales of anti-virus software.
Time has shown that while this may be the case with other anti-virus software companies, it certainly does not apply to McAfee.
