Rumour has it that there now around one hundred thousand computer viruses that have been recorded since someone thought it would be a good idea to introduce them. These first hackers might well have reached pension age by now, and as computer technology has become more advanced and sophisticated, so the viruses that have been developed to attack the computer have also grown in their complexity. Something that was once regarded as a piece of fun in the computer play yard has grown to become a secondary industry, as destructive as it is malevolent. It is no coincidence that a new name has developed for this blot on the face of the computer world, malware, which is short for malicious software.
Most computer owners a few years ago were blissfully unaware of the damage that malware can cause. However anyone today who treats this threat lightly is liable to pay a heavy price for a lack of attention. With all due respect to the many freeware virus protection programs available online, they may not be fully equipped to deal with the threats that are posed, especially for someone who works on the computer or uses it carry out financial transactions, even at the lowest scale. The investment in a professional anti-virus program fades into insignificance when compared to the damage caused by not having the best software program available installed.
By taking the high road to virus protection you can keep your computer free of virus and working at maximum performance. Anything else varies from reckless to false economy at an almost criminal level.
