What Can I Do About SPAM?

At one time, spam was simply limited to just unsolicited advertising messages. Since its inception, spam has become far more advanced. Spam can now steal your personal data and financial information. Almost every day, over 121 billion spam e-mails are sent on the Internet. Spam has become a serious challenge to Internet security.

One of the most common ways that viruses are spread is through the distribution of Spam. Spam clogs the network and is highly intrusive. Many computer viruses replicate themselves and spread through spam e-mail. Almost 500 new viruses are discovered each month - many of these viruses are designed to destroy information on your computer and read information that can ultimately lead to identity theft.

By opening any file on your computer, you can become immediately vulnerable to attack from viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. The most important aspect of this problem is to never open an attachment that comes from an unknown, mistrusted, or suspicious source.

Even if you recognise the source of the attachment, still exercise caution when opening any file or attachment. A friend may have, unknowingly, included an attachment containing a hidden virus.
